The Intersection of Trans & Sex Workers' Rights

Join us for an in-person session during the 2024 Commission on the Status of Women. This event at the UN Church Center (second floor) is open to everyone, including folks without UN passes. This is the only way to reserve a seat at this sought-after session and your optional kind donation will continue to support the work of sex workers and trans people working for human rights. (Please note that walk-ins will be welcome on the event day, but these rooms can get crowded).

More about the session: Laws and policies explicitly against transgender women are being proposed in many places around the globe, and these laws combine with prohibitions on sex work to prevent our communities from earning incomes, thriving, and even surviving. This in-person panel discussion will showcase sex workers and trans leadership from across the globe to discuss organizing strategies for addressing this pushback on trans lives. We will describe how laws restricting gender and sexuality, including sex workers and trans people, but more generally, limit women’s right to socioeconomic self-determination. We will discuss strategies for strengthening our rights to defend our bodies, access to social services, and forums to protect our speech, art, and expression. We will also review areas of multilateral and global policies that affirm the rights of sex workers and the intersection of sex workers’ rights and the human rights of transgender women.
