Sex Workers Speak: Identifying and Ending Violence Against Us
Since its creation in 2003, International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers (December 17th) has called attention to the harms perpetrated against Sex workers around the world. Our diverse panel of activists and scholars will discuss the many ways violence is perpetrated not only by murderers but also by the very system of justice tasked with our safety.
Our panelists include:
Akynos is the founder of the Black Sex Worker Collective, author, performance artist, and educator in the fields of sexuality, HIV, and rights.
Erika Smith Co-Executive Director of Best Practices Policy Project. She organizes with and provides services to Black trans people and sex workers in the District of Columbia and across the United States.
Penelope Saunders, Ph.D., Co-Executive Director of the Best Practices Policy Project, a national policy dedicated to the health and rights of sex workers. She has established numerous organizations nationwide focusing on sex worker rights, HIV, and rights, as well as having worked in Latin America and Australia.
Raani Begum, is a queer, migrant, disabled, full-service sex worker, an organizer, and a writer. Raani is a core organizer in Project SAFE and Philadelphia Red Umbrella Alliance and a member of Heaux History and Mad Ecologies.

N’jaila Rhee, Executive Director of New Jersey Red Umbrella Alliance. She has advocated for the human and labor rights of sex workers rights since 2005. She is also a journalist, BBW adult web model, PSO, and exotic dancer.
